WA continues to dodge COVID-19 bullets

WA continues to dodge coronavirus bullets, with no new cases of the virus recorded in the west overnight, despite yesterday’s COVID-19 scare.

A statement released by WA Health today said 18 close and casual contacts of yesterday’s COVID-19 positive case – a woman in her 20s travelling from NSW – have now been tested.

As of 10am today, 17 had returned a negative COVID-19 test result, with one result still pending.

The close contacts are in quarantine.

The State’s latest close shave involved a WA woman permitted to board a flight west from Sydney on Tuesday despite failing to obtain a G2G pass.

The woman was intercepted at Perth Airport by police, swabbed for COVID-19 and escorted directly to quarantine.

Fifteen people were all on the same Sydney to Perth flight, all of whom work masks and are now in hotel quarantine.

Contact tracers have also identified 58 close and casual contacts linked to a NSW truck driver, who returned a positive PCR result for COVID-19 earlier this week.

As of 10am Saturday, 29 contacts had tested negative to COVID-19 with 19 test results pending and 10 people still being tested.

All contacts are in quarantine.
