Matt Hancock & Gina Coladangelo pals since UNI before she scored health gig

FORMER Health Secretary Matt Hancock and Gina Coladangelo have been friends since university, it has been reported.

On Friday The Sun revealed that Hancock cheated on his wife with Gina, 43, who he hired last year with taxpayers’ money, as Covid gripped Britain.

GINA Coladangelo is to step down from her £15,000 position on the board of the Department for Health and Social Care following Matt Hancock’s resignation.

Hancock was seen kissing her in video footage at the Department of Health’s London HQ during office hours last month as the mutant strain began spreading.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Hancock told his wife he was leaving her on the night his affair was revealed.

According to The Sunday Times, she had no idea her husband was having an affair until he broke the news and announced that their marriage was over.

In his resignation statement released yesterday, Hancock wrote how he wanted to “reiterate my apology for breaking the guidance and apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this” but did not mention his wife.

  • HANCOCK AND COLADANGELO ‘LIKELY TO SET UP HOME TOGETHER’ – REPORTS

Mr Hancock and Ms Coladangelo are reportedly “likely to set up home together” despite their romance only starting in May.

He told wife Martha he was leaving her on the night his affair was first revealed, it was reported.

According to The Sunday Times, she had no idea what was going on until he broke the news and announced their marriage was over.

Now a friend of Mr Hancock has revealed: “Matt and Gina are in love” adding the relationship started in May “but it is serious.”

A friend told The Sunday Times: “It is a love match. They’re setting up home.”

  • JEREMY HUNT: COMMONS COMMITTEE YET TO RECEIVE EVIDENCE FROM DOMINIC CUMMINGS OVER HANCOCK ALLEGATIONS

Jeremy Hunt said his Commons committee was still yet to receive evidence from Dominic Cummings over allegations made about Matt Hancock before his resignation.

Asked whether the Health Select Committee had received evidence Mr Cummings said he had over failures by Mr Hancock, Mr Hunt told The Andrew Marr Show: “No, but I think it’s also fair to say that if you take out the sort of, the personal vendettas and the score-settling, Dominic Cummings said some pretty important things that helped us understand why certain wrong decisions were made at crucial moments this time last year.

“And so I think it was a very important evidence session but on that particular thing, I do think the case is unproven.”

  • HANCOCK ACCUSED OF USING PRIVATE EMAIL TO CONDUCT GOVERNMENT BUSINESS

Matt Hancock has been accused of using a private Gmail account to conduct government business as officials warned of the “optics” of not recording key decisions.

The Sunday Times reported that minutes of meetings seen by the newspaper revealed that the former health secretary had been using a private email address since March 2020, which meant that key decisions and their reasoning were not recorded or could be difficult to access for any future inquiry into the handling of coronavirus.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) insisted that all ministers conduct their government business through departmental email addresses.

But the minutes from a meeting between senior officials in the department in December reportedly showed that David Williams, who was then the department’s second permanent secretary but has since moved to the Ministry of Defence, warned that Mr Hancock “only” dealt with his private office “via Gmail account”.

  • GINA WAS OUT OF MATT HANCOCK’S LEAGUE (CONTINUED…)

The pair were both at Oxford University in the late 1990s and met while working at university radio station Oxygen FM.

Maxie Allen – who was a programme co-ordinator at Oxygen during that time – said Mr Hancock was “not someone you would mark out as destined for greatness”.

Mr Allen told the Sunday Mirror: “[Ms Coladangelo] struck me as someone who would get what they want. He’s done well.

“This wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t the Health Secretary and she wasn’t lobbying, that is blatantly obvious to anyone who knew them back then.

“Gina was very glamorous, very nice and very good looking – all the young men held a candle for her. She was suave, composed and elegant. Most men would have given their right arm to go out with her.”

  • GINA COLADANGELO WAS ‘OUT OF MATT HANCOCK’S LEAGUE’

GINA Coladangelo was “out of Matt Hancock’s league” and the former Health Secretary was “not destined for greatness”, according to an old university friend of the pair.

Mr Hancock, 42, sensationally quit as Health Secretary last night after his secret affair with aide Ms Coladangelo was exposed by The Sun.

  • ‘I’M IN SHOCK’: ITV’S LORRAINE KELLY WEIGHS IN ON MATT HANCOCK AFFAIR

The daytime presenter was a guest on Friday night’s The Last Leg, where Hancock’s alleged affair was obviously one of the main topics of conversation.

“If he was the last man in the world, I wouldn’t even go near him. If the future of the human race depended upon me having to go anywhere [near him, I wouldn’t].”

“My toes will refuse to uncurl the whole day,” she added. “But he reminded me of something…”

Kelly was then gifted comedian Adam Hills with a facemark with the word “tw**”, in what she suggested was a Hancock-related gift.

  • ‘WHERE DO YOU GET OFF?’ SKY NEWS PRESENTER TELLS MP DEFENDING MATT HANCOCK AFTER FAMILY WERE BANNED FROM DAUGHTERS FUNERAL

A Sky News presenter today raged at an MP defending Matt Hancock by telling him “where to get off” after hundreds were banned from attending his daughter’s funeral.

Speaking today, presenter Tony Phillips said 300 loved ones were forced to watch his daughter’s funeral online because they were banned from the service “even though it was in the open air, because of the rule of 30, because of the instruction by Mr Hancock”.

As MP, Brandon Lewis listened, the Sky News broadcaster fumed: “I want to put a private – personal question I guess, in a way – to you.

“Over the past two days every Cabinet minster including you has come out to essentially defend the Prime Minister and Matt Hancock.

“Now the next time one of you tells me what to do in my private life, explain to me why I shouldn’t just tell you where to get off?”

  • MATT HANCOCK WHISKED MISTRESS AIDE GINA AWAY ON ROMANTIC G7 BREAK AFTER CLAIMS HE WAS ‘SH**GING ON TAXPAYER EARNINGS

Appalled Matt Hancock is set to face fresh questions over whether he was “sh**ging on taxpayer cash” amid claims he took his mistress to the G7 health summit this month.

The former Health Secretary, who sensationally stepped down last night after The Sun exposed his romance with Gina Coladangelo, reportedly took the aide with him to Oxford.

It’s not known if the pair stayed together.

However, Hancock slept at a luxury hotel, all paid for by Brits, in the city where he and his lover first met at university students two decades ago.

Hancock – dubbed “puritan-in-chief” for his militant stance on couples from separate households meeting up during lockdown – reportedly told Martha, his wife of 15 years, he would be leaving her on Thursday.

  • EXPLOSIVE AFFAIR

Mr Hancock was seen kissing her at the Department of Health’s London HQ during office hours last month as the mutant strain began spreading.

Matt Hancock married his wife Martha, an osteopath, in 2006 and the pair have three children together.

The couple lives in Little Thurlow in his West Suffolk constituency with their one daughter and three sons.

A Whitehall whistleblower told The Sun it was “shocking that Mr Hancock was having an affair in the middle of a pandemic with an adviser and friend he used public money to hire”.

A friend of the Health Secretary said: “He has no comment on personal matters. No rules have been broken.”

  • SLAP IN THE FACE

Grieving families who have lost loved ones to coronavirus have written to the Prime Minister after he refused to sack Matt Hancock in the wake of his secret affair being exposed.

Bereaved Brits have slammed Boris Johnson’s decision to keep the Health Secretary as a “slap in the face” to the thousands of families of Covid victims.

Despite preaching the importance of social distancing and lockdown rules during the pandemic, the father-of-three cheated on his wife with his closest aide Gina Coladangelo, 43, who he hired last year with taxpayers’ money.

But Hannah Brady, who lost her father Shaun, 55, to the virus, has hit out at Mr Hancock and said he “has treated bereaved families with contempt”.

She believes the 42-year-old should have already been struck off for his failures and is infuriated that the PM “considers the matter closed”.

  • WIFE OF 15 YEARS

During the pandemic, the office has provided the backdrop to his Zoom appearances on TV — including the Andrew Marr Show.

Mr Hancock is seen checking the corridor is clear before closing the door and then leaning on it to ensure he cannot be disturbed.

Ms Coladangelo then walks towards him and the pair begin their passionate embrace.

According to a whistleblower, who used to work at the department, the pair have regularly been caught in clinches together.

  • WHO IS GINA COLADANGELO?

Millionaire mum-of-three Gina Coladangelo is communications director at Oliver Bonas, the fashion and lifestyle store founded by her husband Oliver Tress.

She is also a director and major shareholder at lobbying firm Luther Pendragon, which offers clients a “deep understanding of the mechanics of government”.

Matt Hancock secretly appointed Coladangelo to the Department of Health and Social Care as an unpaid adviser on a six-month contract in March last year.

It sparked claims of a ‘chumocracy’ in November, when it also emerged she had accompanied Hancock to confidential meetings with civil servants and visited No10.

In September, Hancock appointed Coladangelo as a non-executive director at DHSC, meaning that she is a member of the board that scrutinises the department.

There was no public record of the appointment, which was set to see her earn at least £15,000 of taxpayers’ money, potentially rising by a further £5,000.

  • ASHLEY CAIN’S GRIEVING PARTNER SAFIYYA SLAMS MATT HANCOCK AFFAIR AFTER HER FAMILY ‘FOLLOWED RULES’

Ashley Cain’s grieving partner Safiyya Vorajee has taken to social media to slam Matt Hancock for ‘breaking rules.’

It comes after the devastating loss of the couple’s eight-month old baby Azaylia, with strict lockdown measures in place during their time spent in hospital meant that she couldn’t visit friends and family for extra support.

Safiyya, 34, said: “I was just in mid conversation and thought I’d share it with you guys about the whole Matt Hancock situation.

“And I feel really disheartened that this has all come to light about what he’s done really, because being in a hospital for such a long time and following all these restrictions and not being able to do so much and having time with your family together…

“And then seeing him doing what he did is so disappointing.”

  • WHISTLEBLOWER ‘SURPRISED HANCOCK WAS SO BRAZEN’ ABOUT AFFAIR

According to a whistleblower, who used to work at the department, the pair have regularly been caught in clinches together.

The source said: “They have tried to keep it a secret but everyone knows what goes on inside a building like that.

“I’m just amazed he was so brazen about it as he was the Secretary of State.

“It has also shocked people because he put her in such an important, publicly-funded role and this is what they get up to in office hours when everyone else is working hard.”

  • MATT HANCOCK’S MISTRESS GINA COLADANGELO REVEALS HE FIBBED ON STUDENT RADIO LAST YEAR

Coladangelo went on to reveal how Hancock had told a “white lie” about watching a rugby match at Twickenham when in reality he was watching the game in a pub.

She said: “He got one of these special tickets to go and sit in the press box with all the other serious journalists at Twickenham to watch a big match.

“I think it was Australia vs England.

“He actually overslept and hot-footed it to the train but didn’t make it back to Twickenham from Oxford in time so Matt had to get off the train at Reading, find a pub, watch the first half and then go to phone box outside and report in.

“So he told a white lie, pretended he was at Twickenham watching the rugby when in fact he was in a pub in Reading.

“Successfully, no one ever found out.”

Mr Hancock, 42, sensationally quit as Health Secretary last night after his secret affair with aide Gina Coladangelo was exposed by The Sun.

Body language expert Judi James said Mr Hancock’s apology was “clearly not personal” – and that he hinted at a political comeback.

“Overall the tone, the building sense of energy and resolution make this sound very much like a man primarily focused on making a comeback,” she told The Sun Online.

“There is no reference to his wife or even implication of any shame prompted by his cheating. He seems to see this as a work-related matter rather than a personal life one.

  • BORIS JOHNSON COULD WELCOME MATT HANCOCK BACK AS HE SAYS HIS ‘CONTRIBUTION IS FAR FROM OVER’

Prime Minister Boris Johnson appears to have hinted Matt Hancock could return to the Government because his “contribution is far from over” — despite slamming him as “useless” in a text.

The embattled Health Secretary quit his role on Saturday, a day after humiliating footage of his romantic clinch with a senior aide was published by The Sun.

But praise comes after he branded Mr Hancock “totally f***ing hopeless” in bombshell WhatsApps released by ex No10 aide Dominic Cummings.

Mr Johnson later appeared to denounce efforts to procure PPE as a “disaster” and suggested Mr Hancock be stripped of responsibility.

But despite the messages, Mr Johnson this week refused to sack his Health Secretary, with his spokesman saying the PM considered the matter closed after receiving the West Suffolk MP’s apology yesterday.
