Hundreds of protesters have rallied against Dan Andrews’ new pandemic laws at the Melbourne Cup near the gates of Flemington racecourse.
Victorians would face huge fines of $90,870 by breaking the rules by taking off their masks or leaving homes for a non-authorised reason under the proposal, with heftier fines for more serious instances.
The laws are expected to pass the state Parliament later this month.
The protest comes as animal rights groups also protested outside the ‘race that stops the nation’.
