Ardbeg reveals Halloween ice cream tour – The Spirits Business

Islay distillery Ardbeg has unveiled its Monster Ice Scream Truck Tour, which will travel to three UK cities serving special edition treats from 26 to 31 October.

The Halloween-themed ice cream truck will tour London, Glasgow and Edinburgh where it will offer three exclusive ice cream serves.

The truck will serve special edition treats that can be made with and without Ardbeg’s smoky single malt Scotch whisky.

Colin Gordon, Ardbeg distillery manager, said: “Our ‘ice scream’ truck will be prowling the country this month, leaving smoky delights in its wake during the spookiest time of the year.

“I’d urge whisky lovers to beware though: Ardbeg Wee Beastie is a dram with quite a bite, so while it may be encased in ice cream, you’ll still need to be on your guard. The events are guaranteed to linger long in the nightmares of anyone who dares attend.”

Ice creams to be served by the truck will include the Cookies & Scream, which presents Ardbeg Wee Beastie ice cream sandwiched between charcoal cookies, and coated in ‘crunchy mealworms’; the Ahhh, No! Bar, consisting of Lapsang Souchong ice cream with an Ardbeg An Oa caramel centre coated in white chocolate; and finally the Ice Cream Groan, a charcoal cone filled with Ardbeg Ten smoky blackcurrant ice cream, and topped with sour cherries and a brittle ‘insect-flecked’ shard.

From 26-27 October, the truck will be based at Covent Garden Piazza, London. On 29 October, the truck will serve treats at Drygate Brewery in Glasgow. For the final two days, from 30-31 October, the truck will present serves in Edinburgh at St James Quarter on the Saturday, and Castle Street on the Sunday.

The cold treats are crafted in partnership with the founder of artisanal ice cream parlour Ruby Violet, where the three ice creams will also be available to buy from the King’s Cross Coal Drops Yard outlet in London from 22 October.

The truck features horns, tentacles and beady eyes, and took 12 people three months to construct.

Consumers can also book a 45-minute slot in an extension of the spooky-themed truck, a ‘Monster of Smoke cage’, which allows visitors to try ice cream and cocktails.

Cocktails include the Cherry Lipsmacker, an alternative take on the classic whisky and cola, boasting flavours of smoky tea, treacle toffee and cigar smoke and aniseed on the palate; the Begroni, a herbaceous and chocolatey serve made with Ardbeg Wee Beastie; and a New Fashioned, made using Ardbeg Ten Years Old with resulting notes of black pepper, cinnamon toffee, chewy peat oil and jammy blackcurrant.
