Vanderpump Rules: Raquel Implies She Ignored ‘Inner Voice’ With James

Raquel Leviss is hinting about the reasons she called off her engagement to James Kennedy. The split was revealed at the Vanderpump Rules reunion.

Raquel Leviss is hinting she had to listen to her heart in order to end things with James Kennedy. The two were together for five years before calling off their engagement. The split was revealed during filming of the Vanderpump Rules season 9 reunion.

Considering the season began with an elaborate Coachella-themed proposal, some fans were shocked by Raquel and James’ split. However, throughout the series, the DJ was not exactly a model boyfriend. He was repeatedly accused of cheating on Raquel, and would send her nasty text messages. Some hoped sobriety would improve his behavior. Instead, “California sober” James still made hurtful comments to his longtime partner, seemingly unaware of her feelings. The split appeared to indicate Raquel wouldn’t put up with that anymore, and her recent Instagram activity supports that theory.

Raquel opened up in a comment on an IG video from model Brittany McGowan. In the reel, which was posted on December 14, the mental health advocate spoke about self-talk and inner monologues. On Thursday, Raquel revealed how much she related to the video. Referencing the “golden rule” to treat others the way you’d want to be treated, the reality star wrote, “I think there needs to be a second clause that should be taught: treat YOURSELF the way you treat others.” The SURver continued, “Since I live a life of empathy (sometimes to a fault) it’s easy for me to treat others with patience, kindness and respect. But I neglect to be kind to myself, I forget that I require patience too, sometimes even I ignore my inner voice. Let’s learn to love ourselves as much as we love others.” Later on, Raquel posted a screenshot of the comment to her own IG story.

Raquel, who admitted to getting a nose job, constantly showed empathy and patience to James, even when he was at his worst. Those who disliked her beau accused her of being naive or stupid. Stassi Schroeder memorably compared her to the woman who tried to marry Charles Manson. Raquel wouldn’t give infidelity rumors the time of day on the show. But in one reunion, she admitted there was likely some truth to them.

The engagement, and James’ sobriety, should’ve indicated her patience had paid off. Instead, viewers were stunned at his callous disregard for her. Raquel didn’t leave behind her sweet nature, but made her reservations about James’ behavior more clear.

The 25-year-old also tried to be kind to her co-stars, despite all their rude comments. Recently, when Lala Kent spoke about falling out with co-stars, she singled Raquel out in a good way. The podcast host revealed Raquel was the only one who checked in on her while filming the reunion. This praise was surprising to many viewers. Lala, a previous love interest for James, constantly feuded with Raquel and rejected her attempts to extend an olive branch. Over time, Raquel began standing up for herself more. But now two blondes have more in common than James, as Lala also recently broke off an engagement.

Raquel’s comment shows a different approach as she enters a new, single chapter. While the beauty queen isn’t divulging too many details on the split right now, fans won’t have to wait too long for the whole story. Raquel and James reportedly explain their breakup at the reunion.
