The Batman Movie Trailer Gets Remade With 90s Animated Series Clips

YouTuber Darth Blender remakes the Batman trailer with footage from The Animated Series, combining gritty new audio with eye-popping animation.

A beat for beat recreation of The Batman’s new trailer using footage from Batman: The Animated Series was recently made and posted on YouTube. Starring Robert Pattinson as the new caped crusader, The Batman is the character’s first solo outing since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy wrapped up in 2012. Set for release in March 2022, Matt Reeves’s film will reboot the Batman franchise with all-new talent, including Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, and Colin Farrell as Penguin. Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and Peter Sarsgaard also star.

Batman: The Animated Series is another critically acclaimed entrée into the Batman media franchise. Voiced by Kevin Conroy as Batman, the series aired from 1992 to 1995, existing contemporaneously with films Batman Returns (1992) and Batman Forever (1995). Despite ostensibly being a children’s show, The Animated Series helped to solidify Gotham’s noir aesthetic and anticipate the dark tone that future Batman films would embrace.

Now, YouTuber Darth Blender is offering their own spin on the widely seen Batman trailer, combining the audio from the upcoming film with graphics from The Animated Series. The video seamlessly syncs up the beats and action of The Batman trailer with animated footage, even finding a clip of the cartoon Batmobile emerging from a fiery blaze. “The Batman Animated” marries the series’ eye-popping artwork with the gritty, dour dialogue and music of the forthcoming film. Commenters commended the meticulously edited video, with one reacting, “This is a masterpiece.” Check out the mashed up trailer below:

The first official trailer for The Batman dropped in August 2020 to much fanfare, followed by a second trailer in October. Both videos resulted in a deluge of reactions, memes, and mashups, including an unlikely blend of The Batman and Ted Lasso. For the animated mashup, Darth Blender uses the audio from trailer #2, which focuses more on Penguin and Catwoman than the Riddler-centric first trailer.

Insofar as trailer mashups and edits go, it’s not Darth Blender’s first rodeo. The content creator has produced plenty of superhero-inspired videos, including an animated Captain Marvel trailer. Still, The Batman inspires a particularly sizeable amount of fan-fueled fodder given the new director, the reintroduction of classic villains, and, most notably, a fresh-faced Batman. Pattinson’s iteration of the dark knight seems particularly aggressive, indicating that fans may be headed for a more violent, grittier Batman next year. The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4.
