Star Wars: Visions Anime Expo Panel Set To Show A Sneak Peek

Lucasfilm has announced that their animated short-film anthology series Star Wars: Visions will be getting its first look during Anime Expo Lite.

Lucasfilm has announced that the first look at Star Wars: Visions – an anthology of anime short films taking place in the Star Wars universe – will be revealed in July at Anime Expo Lite. Star Wars: Visions will be joining an impressive roster of animated content from Lucasfilm coming off the heels of their latest series Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which debuted on Disney+ last month. However, unlike previous Star Wars animated series like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels which have been developed and produced in-house at Lucasfilm, Star Wars: Visions will be a collaborative effort between Lucasfilm and various Japan-based anime studios.

Today, Lucasfilm has announced that the first look at Star Wars: Visions will be revealed in a streamed panel at Anime Expo Lite. The stream will be 30 minutes long and will be held on July 3rd at 3 p.m. PST. Check out the excerpt below for the full list of guests:

Join host Chastity Vicencio and Lucasfilm executive producers Jacqui Lopez, James Waugh, and Josh Rimes, Qubic Pictures’ and co-executive producer Justin Leach, and producer Kanako Shirasaki for an inside look at Star WarsVisions before the series debuts on Disney+ later this year.

It will be exciting to see just how far this project will deviate from the typical Star Wars animation formula. The last time Lucasfilm collaborated with an acclaimed third-party animator was in 2003 with Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Samurai Jack), and resulted in the fan-favorite 2D microseries, Star Wars: Clone Wars (not to be confused with the 3D animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars that debuted in 2008). Critics praised Tartakovsky’s series for breaking the Star Wars mold with its lack of dialogue and its fast-paced, heavily stylized animation. Hopefully Star Wars: Visions will similarly forge its own path into this uncharted territory of Star Wars anime.
