Shin Megami Tensei V Reveals Launch Trailer & Screenshots

Developer Atlus has revealed a new trailer and screenshots for Shin Megami Tensei V ahead of its upcoming worldwide release for Nintendo Switch.

Post-apocalyptic role-playing game Shin Megami Tensei V has revealed its launch trailer and screenshots ahead of the game’s worldwide release. Although the game has already been released in Japan, Shin Megami Tensei V will release worldwide on November 12.

The Shin Megami Tensei series is the central set of games within the greater Megami Tensei franchise, which started off with the original Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei in 1987, followed by the first Shin Megami Tensei back in 1992. The story follows the player as they make their way through post-apocalyptic Tokyo after a portal is opened that allows demons to infest the human world. The series has shifted to a modern-day Tokyo setting in recent installments and is known for its multiple spinoffs, the most famous of which is the Persona series of games, which began in 1996. Persona follows a group of high school students who encounter the eponymous “Persona,” which is the physical manifestation of a person’s subconscious. Players will have to fight these Personas along with the demons from the original Megami Tensei story in turn-based battles. The most recent installment in the series, Persona 5, was released in 2016 and received universal praise on its release.

Developer ATLUS, has shown off the launch trailer and screenshots for Shin Megami Tensei V on the day of its worldwide release. The game will follow the player after they awaken in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo with newfound powers. The player will have to battle demons and mythical deities as they survive the wasteland of death and destruction.

As the trailer and screenshots reveal, Shin Megami Tensei V will let the player make choices to influence the tragic story, including recruiting enemies to fight demons and carve out a role in the new world the player has been thrust back into. The Press Turn Battle System that has been featured in every game since 2003’s Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne returns in Shin Megami Tensei V. Players can target enemies at their weakest point and chain consecutive actions for maximum damage. Finally, and perhaps the biggest announcement, is that Shin Megami Tensei V will be rendered in 3D using the Unreal Engine 4. That makes this the first Shin Megami Tensei game to use the Unreal Engine.

Although much of this information is already known since the game has already been released in Japan, its doubtful that any of these features will push unsure players to purchase. However, the new launch trailer and screenshots show just what Shin Megami Tensei players outside of Japan can expect from this game.
