Ryan Reynolds Taking A Break From Acting After Wrapping Latest Movie

After filming three movies back to back amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ryan Reynolds is looking forward to taking a little sabbatical from acting.

Ryan Reynolds announces he’s taking a brief sabbatical from acting following the wrap of his latest movie. In recent years, Reynolds has been one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. This year alone has seen him promoting the releases of two different movies – The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Free Guy – with a third to come next month (Netflix’s Red Notice). In addition to those, Reynolds has overseen the Deadpool franchise and lent his voice to movies like Pokémon Detective Pikachu and The Croods: A New Age.

Most recently, Reynolds has been in the midst of filming Spirited, a comedy-musical riff on A Christmas Carol. The movie was first announced in 2019, but it only began filming earlier this year. Reynolds stars alongside Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer in Spirited, which is directed by Sean Anders and John Morris. The movie has yet to receive a release date, though it could easily be slotted in for the holiday season next year. Many are excited to see Reynolds and Ferrell take to the big screen together, particularly since they seemed to have so much fun on set.

Reynolds talked about his positive experience filming Spirited in a social media post shared online on Saturday, which also featured the actor’s admission that he’s taking a break from acting. “Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer…” Reynolds wrote. He concluded this is the “Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making,” though he also added, “I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.” Reynolds also shared several pictures from the Spirited set, which can be seen with the full post down below.

Reynolds didn’t say how long he intends for this break to go on, but it makes perfect sense why he would want one. In the past year alone, he’s filmed three different movies: Red Notice, The Adam Project, and Spirited. That would already be an impressive achievement, but Reynolds also completed all of these amid the coronavirus pandemic, which made film productions even trickier to navigate (Reynolds’ Red Notice co-star Dwayne Johnson has spoken at length about how intense filming was).

Therefore, it’s perfectly reasonable for Reynolds to want to take a step back for a few months. In terms of upcoming projects on his slate, Deadpool 3 is perhaps the farthest along. Reynolds previously said there’s a 70% chance the Marvel movie could shoot within the next year, but that still might not be for months. Reynolds could film Deadpool 3 after taking several months off, or the movie itself could get pushed into 2023. Either way, Reynolds seems perfectly content with his upcoming sabbatical, and in the meantime, fans have plenty of his movies to enjoy.
