Bethenny Frankel recently called out Erika Jayne on her podcast for continuing to film RHOBH, despite her legal issues, because she needs the money.
Former The Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel believes Erika Jayne from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is on the show because she needs the money. Prior to everything Bethenny has said about Erika in recent months, the former housewife never seemed too fond of the singer. The two met while filming an episode of RHOBH from season 6, Erika’s first season on the show. Bethenny was already quite critical of Erika and her career as a singer at that time.
Erika did express in her confessionals that she felt Bethenny was a bit condescending towards her. However, the reality star was able to brush it off, as Erika isn’t one to stress over the opinions of others. Since then, Erika and Bethenny never interacted much, despite Bethenny’s close friendship with Erika’s costar, Kyle Richards. However, that friendship is still up in the air ever since Bethenny unfollowed Kyle on social media.
On an upcoming episode of Bethenny’s podcast, Just B with Bethenny Frankel, per Us Weekly, she called Erika out for continuing to appear on RHOBH for money. “She needs the money,” the SkinnyGirl founder said on her new episode. “She’s on the show, which is not a great idea […] but probably [is] something she needs or wants to do for her livelihood.” Bethenny also noted that she believes the 50-year-old “did the show because she likes fame and she wants to stay relevant.” While the pair have met in the past for filming and promotional purposes, Bethenny doesn’t know Erika on a personal level. Furthermore, despite her criticism, the mother of one isn’t certain Erika knew of her husband’s legal issues.
Last December, Erika’s ex-husband, Tom Girardi, was accused of embezzling at least $2 million in settlement funds from the victims who lost loved ones in the Lion Air plane crash in 2018. Shortly after, an LA Times exposé was published that claimed the alleged stolen money crimes dated back at least ten years. Tom’s money issues might be news for the public, but they were well-known in the legal industry for years. Earlier this month, Bethenny revealed that when she was dating ex-fiancé Dennis Shield, Tom allegedly owed him at least $500,000. The reality star referred to Tom’s financial issues as the “worst-kept secret” in the legal industry.
A representative for Erika later commented on Bethenny’s revelations, confirming that she had “no knowledge of the alleged loans or the conversations” Bethenny was referring to. They believe this was “another example of people trying to throw dirt on Erika based on alleged conversations.” Erika allegedly owes Tom’s creditors millions of dollars, as they believe Tom was funding Erika’s lifestyle with the settlement funds. Erika is going to need quite the raise in order to make those payments any time soon, which may be why she’s sticking with her Bravo gig, despite the criticism she’s receiving.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
