Ant-Man & The Wasp Star Gives Update On Ghost In The MCU

Ant-Man and the Wasp star, Hannah John-Kamen, discusses her role as Ghost and gives fans an update in regards to her character’s future in the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp star, Hannah John-Kamen, gives fans an update on her character Ghost in the MCU. The sequel to Marvel’s Ant-Man was released in 2018 and followed its titular pair on an urgent mission to enter the Quantum Realm, which led to secret revelations from the past and a confrontation with a powerful new enemy. Ant-Man and the Wasp proved to be successful, both critically and commercially, receiving largely positive reviews and outperforming its predecessor at the box office. In addition to John-Kamen, the film starred Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily as the superhero duo, as well as Michael Peña, Randall Park, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Ava Starr, otherwise known as Ghost, ended up playing an important role in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The character, able to phase through objects due to molecular instability, served as the film’s main antagonist. Her father, one of Dr. Hank Pym’s partners, died during an experiment that caused her current condition, leaving Starr dying and in constant pain as a result. Traditionally male in the comics, John-Kamen took on the role of Ghost, portraying a threatening figure that was not purely villainous. Fans of the Ant-Man movies know that Ghost likely survived the sequel’s ending and with a third film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, set to come out, many have been wondering if they will see the character again.

In a recent interview with THR, John-Kamen discussed how impactful filming alongside Pfeiffer and Fishburne was for her, and that looking back on that production, it was one of her best experiences. She also stresses how her character was misunderstood. When asked about how Ava Starr is doing, the actress played coy, saying “She’s good. She’s very good. I won’t say anything more about her!

Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Ghost in Ant Man and the Wasp

Not much is known about the plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but star Evangeline Lily has praised its script as being the best one yet, and other stars have teased that the scale will be much bigger this time around. Given that Ava Starr had a moment of redemption in the last installment, if she were to return, fans can expect her role to change, especially since Loki‘s villain, Kang, is slated to make an appearance. Rumors about Bill Murray being cast in an undisclosed role have surfaced, but so far, no other casting announcements have been made past those of the returning core characters.

The character of Ghost has intrigued fans, with Marvel and John-Kamen making it clear that she was only considered a villain because her goals did not align with those of the film’s heroes. John-Kamen brought a certain amount of humanity to the antagonist, one who was dealt a bad hand and experienced her own share of trauma. With Marvel delaying the release of the third film, fans of Ant-Man and the Wasp will have to wait a little longer than expected to find out what, if anything, lies ahead for Ava Starr.
